Primal Movements 2015-2016
Working together with the Education for families programme and installed on the East Terrace of the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, Primal Movements is a project that invited the public to participate in a fitness circuit programme made up of exercises that mimic land and sea animal movement.
Among the fitness world such exercise programmes attempt to make the body more agile, balanced and conditioned, much like the animals that have inspired the exercises.
For the artist, a further consideration might be that such activity reflects how we see the physical body and its relation to how we live, move, interact with each other and the natural world.
